A COMMUNITY meeting is being held in Cove this weekend to give local residents the chance to find out more about controversial plans for a new ship and terminal for the Kilcreggan-Gourock ferry link.
The meeting is being held the day before Argyll and Bute Council’s public consultation on its proposals comes to an end.
As reported in the Advertiser, Argyll and Bute Council wants to create a new concrete pontoon, linkspan bridge, and breakwater to accommodate a larger vessel it wants to see introduced on the passenger-only services linking both Kilcreggan and Dunoon with Gourock.
Under the plans Kilcreggan’s existing wooden pier would cease to be used for the ferry link but would be retained for ‘leisure and recreational use’, including visits by the paddle steamer Waverley.
The ‘Save Kilcreggan Pier’ group – which, along with many local residents, is vehemently opposed to the council’s proposals – has created a scale model of the breakwater and pontoon which will be on display at the hall this Saturday, March 11, between 10am and 12 noon.
Members of the Save Kilcreggan Pier team will be at the meeting to talk more about the pier options and to encourage people to contact the council with their concerns.
The consultation exercise was due to run until Sunday, March 12, but was recently extended to Sunday, March 26. It can be completed here.
