A HELENSBURGH restaurant has scooped a top prize at the Scottish Curry Awards.

Masala Twist, in James Street, won the 'Voter's Best Choice Restaurant of the Year' accolade for the south-west of Scotland - and then went on to lift the prize in the same category for the whole of the country, beating off competition from regional winners in the north, central and south-east regions.

The staff were overwhelmed by the support of their customers and expressed their thanks to them in a social media post.

A representative from the restaurant said: “A big thank you to all our customers, team members and well-wishers!”

More than 400 people attended the ceremony on Tuesday, May 5 at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

The awards celebrate the best of Scotland’s curry restaurants and chefs and the diversity of the country’s curry culture.

A spokesperson for awards said: “It has been an unforgettable night, filled with incredible food, vibrant energy, and passionate conversations.

“We have celebrated the finest in the Scottish curry scene, recognising the creativity, innovation, and exceptional service that have become synonymous with this beloved cuisine.

“The curry industry is a vital part of our culture, and these awards recognised the exceptional talents of the individuals and businesses that make it so special.

“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees and thank you to everyone who participated and supported this event.”

Helensburgh is no stranger to triumph at the Scottish Curry Awards, with Annaya's in nearby West Princes Street a winner more than once at previous years' ceremonies, while Masala Twist itself was a finalist in 2018.
