CARDROSS Scouts had neigh bother raising funds at their annual race night.

Youngsters from the Cubs and Beavers were hard at work for several weeks making the horses and jumps for the colourful fundraiser. They also volunteered to act as jockeys on the night.

Fantastic support from parents and friends helped to make the night a massive success, raising more than £600.

Organiser Erwin Losekoot said: “This money will allow us to continue to provide an exciting and challenging programme for the young people of the Group.

"Our thanks to the many people involved in organising the event, who helped set up on the day or just turned up on the night, but also to the local businesses who suppported the evening with gifts, sponsorship or hard cash.”

A COLOURFUL poster by a primary six pupil was chosen to highlight the 10th anniversary of the annual Rhu and Shandon Gala Day.

The imaginative design by Nicola Petrie, of Rhu Primary, captured the judge’s eye and not only won her a prize but her school also benefited.

Nicola’s prize-winning drawing was to be used to promote the special day in June.

The presentation to Nicola and runners-up was held at the school last week, where the lucky winner was presented with a framed print of her poster and a £20 book token for Bookworms in Helensburgh from Gala committee member Stewart McKendrick.

TOTS dressed to impress for a spectacular charity fashion show in Helensburgh.

The youngsters strutted their stuff in a variety of brightly-coloured outfits at M&Co’s Sinclair Street branch for three good causes.

Brave young volunteers from the Margaret Rose School of Dance and their older counterparts from Colgrain and Hermitage primaries demonstrated the latest trends in order to raise cash for Children in Need, while a whopping £1,200 was raised for Lewis' Legacy - a fund set up in memory of Helensburgh schoolboy Lewis McLachlan who lost his four year battle with cancer last summer.

Andrea Duncan of Save the Children, the third charity to benefit, said: “Lewis was particularly interested in helping under-priviliged children in Africa, which is why his mum and dad set up this campaign, and we are absolutely delighted to support it.”

HELENSBURGH Boys’ Brigade cooked up a storm with a fund-raising breakfast.

The feast, which included bacon, sausage and French toast, was served up at St Columba’s Church Hall - and hungry diners flocked to the event, helping to raise an impressive £514 for CHAS.

Organiser Douglas Wylie said: “The breakfast was well received by everyone who had it.

“Fortunately for all, the food was cooked by some of the boys’ mothers but the boys served their tables well and delivered the plates while the food was still hot.

“The officers and boys would like to thank everyone for their support in this good cause.”

HELENSBURGH Rugby Club's Primary 4 squad finished their season in style by winning all their matches in an Ayrshire tournament.

Victories were secured against Ardrossan, Garnock, Greenock and Irvine. The scoring format was different from other tournaments with points awarded for skills like passing, running, tackling and support play as well as for wins - and Burgh scored really well on all counts and in particular passing.

The win concluded a memorable season for the P4s finishing with three trophies and runners up medals from their last four tournaments.
