A SEX offender in his 80s from Helensburgh has been fined after breaching the terms of his court order – even though a court was told the offence was “nothing sinister”.

Stanislaw Madej, of Cove Place, Helensburgh, was required to notify police of any changes in his circumstances within three days.

But the 81-year-old failed to do so between November 12 and 15, 2021 – thereby breaching the requirements of the Sexual Offences Act.

He appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for sentencing on Tuesday, May 23, having previously pleaded guilty to the breach.

His defence solicitor Stephen Maguire said: "It might be a more technical breach of the requirements. In discussion with him, it was dealt within in a matter of days.

“Police contacted him and he immediately attended the police station on November 15.

"He has been complying going forward. It is a genuine error and has taken full responsibility, which is why he pleaded guilty at first opportunity.

"There is nothing more sinister behind it."

Sheriff Robert Vaughan fined Madej £200.
