LOCAL bus firms have issued a disruption warning for bus services on Rosneath peninsula bus service on Friday.

The alert comes following surprise roadworks on the B833 today between Rosneath and Kilcreggan.

Garelochhead Coaches and Wilson's of Rhu took to social media to say they were unaware of the works, and that they had not received any information about temporary road closures on the B833.

Garelochhead Coaches say they have now been informed of new works on Friday elsewhere on the B833 - this time between the junction with Barbour Road in Kilcreggan and the turnoff for Portkil.

The bus company says the work will mean its 316 Helensburgh-Coulport bus service will not be able to serve Kilcreggan, Cove or Coulport on June 23.

A spokesperson said: "We have been unable to ascertain exact times of the works. Once the works commence, the 316 will only operate between Rosneath and Helensburgh Co-op.

"We have requested that the works do not disrupt Hermitage Academy school transport from Kilcreggan and Cove.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. We are trying our best with the information we have."

Another local bus firm, Wilson's of Rhu, warned on Thursday of the risk of "substantial delays" to services because of rolling roadworks between Rosneath and Kilcreggan.

In a social media update on Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Rhu company said: "Tomorrow, Friday 23rd, it appears that the 316 service will not be able to serve beyond Rosneath.

"We have not been notified by Kiely Bros [the contractor] or Argyll and Bute Council that works were taking place from today.

"Buses will be unable to get past the works tomorrow, Friday.

"There will therefore be no service covering Kilcreggan, Cove & Coulport.

"This is outwith our control and prior arrangements should have been made by the relevant authorities for this."

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said: “We need to carry out essential maintenance on the Rhu to Kilcreggan road.

"To avoid closing the road entirely and causing large delays with a diversion, contractors are operating a stop and hold traffic system to allow resurfacing to take place.

"We’ve requested that school buses are given priority to get through. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
