A Helensburgh wheelchair tennis star is “really happy” to have won his latest title as he marks a career first.

Gordon Reid played alongside Alfie Hewett – ranked second in the world – to earn the Queen’s Club Cinch Championships wheelchair doubles title on Sunday, June 25.

Despite a slow start for the pair, the top seeds beat Joachim Gerard of Belgium and Stephane Houdet of France 1-6, 7-5, (10-3) to take home their first doubles title at The Queen’s Club.

Gordon said: “It’s the first time myself and Alfie have won this title on home soil here, so we’re really happy with that and it’s given us great preparation for Wimbledon, so hopefully we’ll see some of you (the crowd) there.”

The latest win for Gordon and Alfie has made them 17-time Grand Slam champions and given them their 41st career doubles title together.

The win came as a relief to Alfie, as earlier in the day he had lost a three-set singles final against Joachim Gerard after a tough match where the Belgian triumphed 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to become the first two-time winner of the singles title.

Alfie said: “It was a very close match. I just want to thank my support team for the week.

“I hope we gave you all a good match. It's always disappointing to lose when it is that close."

Gordon and Alfie will now prepare to play together in Wimbledon – where they have already won four titles as a pair - which is due to take place between Monday, July 3 and Sunday, July 16.

Both the Queen’s Club Championship and Wimbledon are run by LTA - the National Governing Body of tennis for the UK.
