GORDON REID'S wheelchair doubles triumph at Wimbledon may have given his friends back home in Helensburgh more reason than most to celebrate - but members at his home town club weren't content to merely sit back and watch all the SW19 action on the television.

The patchy Scottish summer weather held back just long enough for Helensburgh Tennis Club players to get out on court for their annual Wimbledon-themed social tournament.

With the occasional glimpse of sun, the players took to the courts for short matches in a league format, with the top two couples playing in a final.

Liz Wylie and Elaine Clancy took the top honours over Catherine Court and new member Annalie Wrate.

Some special prizes were awarded too, with Fiona Maclaren judged as having the whitest outfit, Fiona Robertson having executed the best lob, and Sheena Benton and Robert Court for winning the most intense rally of the day.

A club spokesperson said: "Thanks to Catherine Court, Fiona Maclaren and Harry Gould for organising the event and post match refreshments."

After a successful summer season, the Helensburgh teams will soon be back in action for the autumn West of Scotland leagues.
