A community group says its future is now secure thanks to a huge donation to their work.

Arrochar and Tarbet Senior Citizens Welfare Committee was given £3,000 by SSE Renewables after decades of helping others in the area.

The funds were made possible from a small fee paid to SSE Renewables after filiming at Sloy Power Stations. And local teams were keen the money would benefit the community.

Linda Hetherington, who has been treasurer for the group for 27 years, said the funds came at just the right time.

She told the Advertiser: "We are a small organisation who aim to give pensioners a number of social outings a year such as afternoon teas, summer outings, shows and dinners.

"I have been the treasurer for 27 years and the people who come are always so pleased and grateful for what we do for them.

"A number of local businesses such as the Caledonian Claymore Hotel and Garelochhead Coached have been very generous over the years and we couldn’t carry out our work without their help.

"Over the last few years the funds for our committee have been getting low, however the generous donation of £3,000 we have received from SSE has made the future of our committee much brighter.

"We no longer have to worry about how we will fund trips and have taken the pleasure in announcing our Christmas dinner and a trip to the pantomime in the upcoming months.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the SSE for this donation it is so very much appreciated."
