The next lunchtime concert at Rhu and Shandon Church is coming up this month.

The Sandwich Series concert will take place on October 12 and feature the young pianist, George Todică.

Born in Romania in 1993, he started playing when he was six before attending the Octav Bancila School of Arts and later training with leading pianist, Arcadi Trofin.

By the age of eight, George started going to piano competitions - and now has more than 20 prizes in international contests.

In 2010, George won the ‘Constantin Silvestri’ Scholarship which allowed him to study for one year at the Stewart’s Melville College in Edinburgh. A year later he entered the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he would study for the next six years.

He debated at Wigmore Hall in October 2018 as a Tillett Trust Young Artist. And he most recently won a number of prizes in 2022 in Scotland, Wales, England, France and Turkey.

George has played at other prestigious halls to prepare for Rhu and Shandon Church where he will perform a number of pieces.

His programme will be:

  • D. Scarlatti - Sonata in E Major K80
  • Bach - Rachmaninov - Transcription of Violin Partita No 3 in E Major (1. Prelude 2. Gavotte 3. Gigue)
  • D. Scarlatti - Sonata in A Major K208
