CHILDREN in Helensburgh enjoyed a fun-packed week at a sports camp during their school holidays.

The youngsters participated in a vast range of sporting activities when the Kings Foundation returned to Lomond School Sports Hall and facilities last week.

The popular autumn activity camp, held in conjunction with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), ran for one packed week from Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13.

The event was open to service children, children of Naval Base workers and members of the Helensburgh and Lomond community.

Around 56 children passed through the camp over the week, enjoying a range of activities designed to promote an active, healthy, lifestyle.

Sponsored by the RNRMC and Captain of the Base, Captain Elaine Boyd, with grants provided by the charity, the event was open to children aged five to 17 years of age.

Lieutenant Commander Carl Steedman, HMS Neptune’s First Lieutenant, visited the camp to chat with the children and volunteers.

He said: “This is such a fantastic initiative for our families and the wider community. For me personally, it is always a privilege to visit this impressive and important programme.

“Witnessing the variety of activities delivered so enthusiastically by the dedicated Kings Camp volunteers and the reaction of the children.

"We are all extremely grateful to the staff and the RNRMC for supporting us so well. Very well done one and all!”

The RNRMC, in conjunction with the Kings Foundation, holds summer and school holiday camps at a variety of location across the UK, and has run camps in Helensburgh for the children of HMNB Clyde workers for many years.

The company is a leading provider of holiday sports and activity day camps for children and works closely with Naval Service communities.

Rachael, site manager for the King's Foundation said: "Alongside my team of Jack, Megan, Zeeshan, Abby and Andy, we welcomed over 50 kids daily, working on varied skills through some 30 sports and activities, including spooky challenges for Wicked Wednesday.”

“It’s been a thoroughly fun week with everyone from the youngest child to every single King’s Team member loving the addictive atmosphere.

"See you in 2024!”
