A BUSY stretch of the A82 will close for overnight roadworks - starting from tonight.

From Wednesday, October 25 until Saturday, October 28, there will be three full overnight closures on the A82 between Stoneymollan and Lomondgate roundabouts.

The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, and both the northbound and southbound carriageways will be completely shut.

Trunk road maintenance firm Amey has been undertaking essential bridge investigation works on the A82 at the Howgate Bridge, between Lomondgate and Stoneymollan roundabouts.

Amey says the work will to benefit around 23,500 vehicles using this route each day, by obtaining key information from the structure to aid future maintenance work at the bridge.

The company says future maintenance work will ensure the structure remains safe and serviceable.

All northbound traffic on the A82 will be instructed to leave at Lomondgate roundabout and join the A813 and then the A811, to re-join the A82 at Stoneymollan roundabout.

A82 southbound traffic will follow the above diversion route in reverse.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

Amey says the work is weather dependent, and "may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable".
