A HELENSBURGH school pupil has won the annual Christmas card competition organised by the town's MSP.

Jackie Baillie's 2023 competition was open to all Primary 7 pupils in the constituency - with the winning design being chosen by a panel of judges from hundreds of entries.

Maisy Petro of St Joseph’s Primary School won the overall competition, and her design will be sent to 5,000 people - including pensioners across the Helensburgh, Lomond, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven - in the lead-up to the festive period.

Cassie Beck, from Braehead Primary in Dumbarton, was chosen as the runner-up, with Lucy Mullen, from Lennox Primary in Bonhill, in third place.

Their designs will feature on the back of the card which will be distributed ahead of Christmas.

Pupils from 21 schools across the constituency took part in this year’s competition, with prizes provided by Morrisons.

Ms Baillie said: “It is always a joy to look through the entries for my annual Christmas card competition. The effort that is put in by the pupils is fantastic.

“This year’s entries were varied and creative making them very difficult to judge due to the high standard. Maisy’s design captured the fun spirit of Christmas for me and I particularly liked the reindeer character she created.

“Thank you to all of the teachers and pupils for the hard work in producing such wonderful designs. I look forward to these being distributed across the area, providing some festive cheer.

“And a special thank you to Chivas Brothers for sponsoring the competition and to Morrisons for supplying the prizes.”
