A Garelochhead community centre was given some “greatly appreciated” help by generous trainees from the HMNB Clyde.

The trainees – who are undertaking the Submarine Qualification [SMQ] course at Faslane – took time out of their training to help with work in the Centre 81 garden.

After their hard work, the volunteers also had time to join in on some fun at the centre as they took part in a line dancing session.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Once again Centre 81 Garelochhead had a little bit of help from our friends at HMNB Clyde, who very kindly lent us some of their SMQ trainees for the day.

“The hard-working bunch got to work with some winter garden maintenance and fixing a storm damaged greenhouse, they even joined in with the line dancing group.

“This additional help from HMNB Clyde was greatly appreciated.”

SMQ provides basic submarine training for junior Royal Navy personnel prior to them joining their first submarine.

Centre 81 is home to a range of community activities as well as a 24-hour gym, Active 81, and the Route 81 youth group for young people aged 11-17.
