FULL details have been revealed of changes to bin collection dates in Helensburgh and Lomond over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Argyll and Bute Council says collections in the area will be carried out 48 hours later than normal.

The changes apply throughout the festive period, not only to those whose bins are due to be collected on December 25/26 and January 1/2.

The local authority says recycling and civic amenity sites across Argyll and Bute, including at Blackhill in Helensburgh, will all be closed on all four public holiday dates.

The full details of changes to bin collection dates for Helensburgh and Lomond are as follows.

Collections due on Monday, December 25 will instead be carried out on Wednesday, December 27.

Uplifts due on December 26 will be carried out on December 28.

Collections on December 27, 28 and 29 will instead be carried out on December 29, 30 and 31 respectively.

At the start of the new year, bins which would normally be uplifted on January 1 and 2 will be collected on January 3 and 4 respectively.

And the changes continue after the public holiday, with bin uplifts on January 3, 4 and 5 instead being carried out on January 5, 6 and 7 respectively.

Collections due on Monday 1st January will instead be carried out on Wednesday 3rd January.

The council is also asking people to do what they can to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill over the busy period.

Paper, card, cans and plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays can all be placed in recycling bins or bags as usual, but cans and plastics should be rinsed out first.

Many types of Christmas paper and cards can also be recycled.

Unfortunately, anything covered in glitter or foil-based paper cannot go in your recycling bin.

If you want to check if the paper is foil, scrunch the paper up. If it springs back, then please put it in the general waste bin.
