An “impromptu” Christmas disco saved one Helensburgh primary school’s festive fundraiser from cancellation after poor weather threatened to stop their holiday fun.

St Joseph’s Primary School pupils enjoyed a last-minute Santa disco after their Santa Dash was unable to go ahead due to the rain.

The Santa Dash was planned to be a fund-raiser to buy hoodies for the school's P7 leavers, and was organised by the pupils themselves.

Not wanting to cancel the event altogether, the day was turned into a party with the help of school janitor Stewart Maule, and saw children pay £1 to receive a Santa hat and dance the day away.

Principal teacher Claire Thomson said: “Unfortunately, the weather was wet underfoot on the day and so with the help of Mr Maule, the school janitor, they quickly switched to a Santa Disco.

“The children had great fun with P7 and P6 pupils making sure that their younger buddies had someone to dance with.

“‘When can we have another Santa Disco?’ was asked by many pupils!

“Thanks to Mr Maule for the impromptu disco, Mrs Smith and Mrs MacLean for supporting the P7 organisers, and of course P7 pupils for organising and leading the event.”
