Drivers are being warned about two overnight closures on the Erskine Bridge this week.

Temporary work is being undertaken to replace the bridge expansion joint on the A898 northbound slip road through to the A82 westbound and will close overnight on both December 20-21 and December 21-22.

The road will be closed from 10pm until 6am for the two nights. It is expected to re-open at 6am on Friday, December 22.

A signed diversion will be in place which will see northbound traffic continue over the bridge to join the eastbound A82 and then be directed to turn left onto Mountblow Road.

From there, traffic, excluding HGVs, will take the next right turn at Melbourne Avenue to re-join the A82 westbound.

HGV traffic will continue on the A82 eastbound the to Kilbowie roundabout and re-join the A82 westbound, as the Mountblow Road diversion is not suitable for heavier vehicles.

Trunk road maintenance firm Amey said that the roadworks will benefit around 46,000 vehicles using this route each day.

The temporary repair, described as a 'CAT 1', is necessary to address a defect to keep the route safe and reliable during the busy festive period, but will require a permanent repair in the future.

Amey says the work is weather dependent, and "may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

All vehicles except those associated with the works will be unable to access the area.

Motorists are also advised that there is expected to be further works at the Erskine Bridge scheduled for early next year.
