PEOPLE in Helensburgh, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven with multiple sclerosis have raised hundreds of pounds - and plenty of smiles - to help locals living with the condition.

The Dumbarton and district branch of the MS Society, which supports people across Helensburgh, Lomond, Dumbarton and the Vale, raised the cash at its Christmas lunch and Christmas jumper party.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

The lunch took place at the Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu on Saturday, December 16.

Thanks to a generous donation of £500 from a "dynamic duo" at HM Naval Base Clyde, and income from raffle ticket sales, more than £750 was raised to support the branch's work.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

Group secretary Sheena said: “One of the main fundraisers for the group, CPO Dave O'Neill and his colleague Rab, joined us with their company and presented a massive donation of £500.

“Dave and Rab are a dynamic duo as they are fantastic in terms of fund-raising for the group. We would like to thank them both for their continued support for Dumbarton and District MS group.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

“A huge thank you to Rosslea Hall Hotel and their staff for their wonderful hospitality.”

Among the invited guests at the event were former Helensburgh councillor Vivien Dance and her husband Tony, and West Dunbartonshire councillor Jonathan McColl and his wife.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

Each guest was given a small gift from Santa who paid the lunch a surprise visit.

But that wasn't the end of the festive fun for the group's members, who reassembled four days later for their Christmas jumper party and lunch at the Park Pavilion in Helensburgh's Hermitage Park.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

Sheena added: “The group enjoyed a lovely lunch and a lovely atmosphere of Christmas with many of the group wearing their Christmas jumpers - they really got into the holiday feeling.

“A huge thank you to Jamie and the staff at the Park Pavilion for their wonderful hospitality.”

Sheena added: "Should anyone out there who sees this and has MS, but isn't sure about joining our wee group, not knowing what to expect, then looking at these photos could potentially change their mind and get them to come along to our drop-in facility in Helensburgh."

The group runs drop-in sessions at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre every second Wednesday from 12.30-4.30pm, as well as a lunch club on the last Thursday of each month.
