A wildlife expert will visit Helensburgh to treat locals to a “fascinating and informative” talk on the area’s birds.

John Simpson – a retired police officer who specialised in wildlife crime - will give an illustrated presentation on the Birds of the Garelochhead Training Area for the RSPB Helensburgh Local Group’s ongoing talk series.

The event will take place at the Guide Halls in John Street on Wednesday, January 17, starting at 7.30pm, with all welcome to join.

A spokesperson for the group said: “John is well-known to members of the group, and he has unparalleled knowledge of what birds are to be found there.

“In addition to observing the birdlife, he has for many years been involved in their protection.

“He has given many such talks in the past, and a fascinating and informative evening is guaranteed.

“His knowledge and experience of wildlife, especially birds, is second to none.”

The former wildlife liaison officer was presented with the Partnership for Action against Wildlife Crime's Officer of the Year accolade in 2004.

John was also instrumental in setting up Peaton Hill Conservation Reserve in Helensburgh and continues to work to protect wildlife.
