A “remarkable” young pianist who was born blind will be performing in Helensburgh later this month.

Scottish pianist Ethan Loch – who won the keyboard section of BBC Young Musician of the Year 2022 – will appear at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre on Sunday, January 28 as part of the Helensburgh Music Society’s concert series.

Despite being blind since birth, the acclaimed 20-year-old musician and student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has achieved many awards throughout his developing career.

A spokesperson for the society said: “His rise in the classical music world has been remarkable.

“He is a tremendously engaging musician and his recitals over the past year since winning the BBC competition have been sell-outs.

“Ethan’s programme will feature some of the most popular works in the repertoire including music by Haydn, Chopin, Debussy, and Ravel, and will include two of his own compositions.

“The society looks forward to welcoming you in the intimate surroundings of the beautiful hall at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre complex.”

Ethan has won the Scottish International Youth Piano Competition (2019), the Premio Asoluto prize at the 15th International 'Giuseppe Sciacca' awards (2016) and was a finalist in the EPTA Belgium International Piano Competition (2018).

Tickets cost £15 for general admission, £5 for students and £1 for under 18s.

They can be purchased at the door from 6.45pm or via the society's website at www.helensburghmusicsociety.org.uk

Season tickets are also on offer and cost £50 – a 30% saving across all five concerts in the series.
