Community groups in the Helensburgh area have been invited to a discussion on how to make the town “cleaner and greener".

Plastic Free Helensburgh are hosting a ‘Big Conversation’ on Saturday, March 9 between 1pm and 4pm in The Bridge at Helensburgh Parish Church.

The event is open to community groups and volunteers and aims to provide space for a 'round table' discussion on how to make the town tidier.

A spokesperson for Plastic Free Helensburgh said: “The purpose is to bring together the volunteers and organisations active in doing, educating, greening, growing, tending, appreciating, and generally doing something to make our environment cleaner, greener, more sustainable, and climate friendly.

“If this is you or your organisation you are invited to attend.

“We will be mapping current work and looking for gaps, as well as possible opportunities and areas for collaboration.”

The event marks the launch of the Regional Argyll and Bute Climate Action Network Hub and will be useful for groups who would like to find out what the new network can do for the area.

The hub was started by the Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust (also known as ACT) with the aim of supporting Argyll and Bute residents to face challenges stemming from climate change.

The day-to-day management of the hub is undertaken by Jamie Joyce from ACT with part-time coordinators for each of the four areas in Argyll.

Jamie Joyce and Lindsey Findlayson of the Cardross Climate Action Network - who is the coordinator for the Helensburgh and Lomond area - will be part of the facilitation team.

Refreshments will be provided to all attendees.
