Helensburgh residents have been warned that the town's only post office will temporarily close next week.

The business will close to allow extensive building work to be carried out at the premises on West Princes Street

It will shut on Friday, February 23 won't reopen until two weeks later, on Friday, March 8.

The works will see the McColl’s store, where the post office is located, revamped into a Morrisons Daily.

Customers are asked to use the post offices in Cardross or Garelochhead while the shop is closed.

Callum Bonfield, Post Office Partner Account Manager, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers during the work.

“The safety of our customers is of paramount, therefore, to allow for the building work to take place, it is necessary for the service to close temporarily.”

The temporary Helensburgh closure comes just a month before the Garelochhead post office is due to close down for good after the retiral of Evanda Street and Anne McQueen, who have run the facility and the accompanying shop for the last decade.

Helensburgh itself lost its only other post office when Morrisons decided to close down the McColl's store in Churchill Square in January 2023, the supermarket chain having bought the network of McColl's stores across the UK a few months previously.
