Drivers are being warned about a full weekend closure on the Erskine Bridge next month.

Work is being undertaken to replace the bridge expansion joint on the A898 northbound slip road through to the A82 westbound and will close for a full weekend at the beginning of March.

The road will be closed from 8pm on Friday, March 8 until 6am on Monday, March 11.

Trunk road maintenance firm Amey has confirmed that these are the rescheduled works from its previous postponement in December last year due to adverse weather conditions.

They have said that the roadworks will benefit around 46,000 vehicles using this route each day.

A signed diversion will be in place which will see northbound traffic continue over the bridge to join the eastbound A82 and then be directed to turn left onto Mountblow Road.

From there, traffic, excluding HGVs, will take the next right turn at Melbourne Avenue to re-join the A82 westbound.

HGV traffic will continue on the A82 eastbound to Kilbowie roundabout and re-join the A82 westbound, as the Mountblow Road diversion is not suitable for heavier vehicles.

Amey says the work is weather dependent, and "may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Motorists are also advised that there is expected to be further works at the Erskine Bridge scheduled for early next year.
