A MAN has been charged with alleged dangerous driving in connection with a crash in Helensburgh.

The 55-year-old has been reported to the procurator fiscal following the crash on West Montrose Street in the town yesterday. 

Police Scotland West Dunbartonshire and Argyll announced that they will be now be carrying out speed checks in Helensburgh and surrounding villages.

A spokesperson said:  "We continue to carry out proactive speed checks in various locations in Helensburgh and surrounding villages.

"Our community and elected members have raised concerns regarding the manner of driving within several residential areas.

"We are being supported by our roads policing officers who will work with us to improve driver behaviour and decision making.

"We are in discussions with partners at Argyll and Bute Council who can assess and consider traffic calming measures which will provide a longer-term solution.

"Road safety remains a local policing priority and we will continue to look for ways to influence and improve driver behaviour in our community."
