Book fans got the chance to meet authors from around the area and celebrate the written word.

Helensburgh Community Hub hosted the "Meet the Author" event with writers from across genres such as crime, memoir, poetry, fantasy and children's fiction.

Gill Simpson, Hub development manager, said: "As part of our work to promote and support reading for pleasure, which is known to benefit people's wellbeing, we also want to support and promote local writers.

"Now that we, along with Jean's Bothy and Helensburgh and Lomond Carers, have established an annual Helensburgh Book Festival, we are keen to keep doing reading and writing events throughout the year. So this just felt like a good opportunity for local authors to promote what they do.

"I take my hat off to anyone who has the imagination, creativity and persistence to write a book so it was a privilege to have some very well-regarded authors join us.

"One of them was even writing his latest crime novel in the Hub in between chatting with readers."

Gill added: "We've got another great book event coming up in November that should please the whisky lovers as well as book lovers."

Mike Billett, a world-renown geoscientist turned whisky connoisseur, will discuss his ground-breaking book Peat and Whisky: The Unbreakable Bond at the Hub on Friday, November 29.

The book is part travelogue, part popular science and he says it is above all a love letter to Scotland’s national drink. It combines Scotland’s landscapes, geology, ecology, history, people and their whisky.
