Dumbarton's Scottish Maritime Museum launches shipbuilding competition

The Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank) in Dumbarton has launched the ‘My Fantastic Ship’ children’s competition and build sessions.

Every Saturday until November 1, young creators aged 5-12 can visit the museum for free and let their imaginations run wild as they build the ship of their dreams.

Children visiting with an adult can join in the hands-on building sessions, getting inspiration, materials and expert guidance from the team.

The museum's curator will select the top ten ships. In addition to prizes to be won, all winning vessels will be displayed at the museum.

However, parents are warned that spaces are limited, so the free tickets should be pre-booked on the museum website.

Claire Jones, learning, engagement and volunteer manager at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: "We’re thrilled to launch the ‘My Fantastic Ship’ children’s competition and build sessions for the upcoming school holidays.

“We can’t wait to see the amazing ships everyone creates – from pirate galleons and spaceships to magical submarines.”
