A CLASS of Helensburgh pupils got a glimpse of the lifesaving work of some local heroes recently.
P5 pupils from St Joseph's Primary dropped into the RNLI Helensburgh station at Rhu to learn about their work as part of their current project.
The class has a Titanic interdisciplinary learning project, so they tried on bits of RNLI kit and stepped onboard the inshore lifeboat.
Wendy Watson, class teacher, told the Advertiser: "Experiences like this are so important in our children's learning and we are delighted that the RNLI can support this learning.
"Living in a town on the Firth of Clyde, water safety is really important to St Joseph's and the RNLI do a lot to ensure our children are equipped to keep themselves safe around water. We are grateful for their support."
Principal teacher Claire Thomson added: "Thanks to volunteers Howard, Shona and Tom for their time in giving the children an insight into the work of this amazing charity.
"The children learned a lot, including the five simple steps of how to 'Float to Live' keeping them safe in and around the water.
"I am also grateful to Mrs Watson for organising this experience and we are sad to be saying goodbye to her at Easter as she retires from teaching.
"Mrs Watson has taught at St Joseph's, Rosneath and John Logie Baird primaries over the years."
