A FORMER bar and restaurant in Helensburgh town centre has been put on the market after a decade.
Peckhams has been put up for let by owner Tony Johnston, who bought the building from Argyll and Bute Council in 2015.
Plans to open the restaurant in the former council building on the corner of Sinclair Street and East Princes Street were first lodged in 2016.
The deli and the shop were originally to have been in a neighbouring building. They were instead moved into the restaurant space, which was licenced for up to 247 people.
The venue opened briefly in January 2023, but struggled to keep the doors open to the public with Mr Johnston citing that the choice of staff was "atrocious" among other factors, such as Covid and internal structures that caused considerable delays.
Then, in April this year, plans to form a hotel with 13 rooms in the former municipal building were given the go-ahead by council officers.
Arthur Bates’ proposal for the site at 48-50 Sinclair Street has been awarded planning permission after Argyll and Bute Council received no representations from the public.
A council handling report states that the areas used for building and function suites will be retained as such.
It also said that an area granted permission for use as a delicatessen will be used to form the hotel access and reception area.
The property, which is now being marketed by Graham and Sibbald, is on the market for £75,000 per annum and signs have already been installed.
It offers accommodation over two levels, comprising a lounge bar, restaurant and kitchen on the ground floor with function room, private dining and further bar on the first floor.
