A BREWERY is toasting its biggest-ever haul of awards and being named an overall champion at a national event.
Loch Lomond Brewery was named as the ‘Overall Cask Champion’ at the Indie Beer Scotland awards, which is run by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA).
The brewery's win came from Bravehop, a six per cent West Coast IPA brewed with Columbus, Chinook and Amarillo hops, famed for its marmalade and pine aromas leading to caramel and apricot flavours followed by a bittersweet finish.
It was another great year for Loch Lomond’s juicy citrus-fresh American-style pale ale, Southern Summit, picking up gold in its cask and keg categories, whilst its alcohol free version also grabbed gold in its 440ml can format.
The business, which is Scotland's most award-winning brewery, picked up 25 medals, including 12 golds, at the coveted event.
In May, the owners created a limited-edition IPA called ‘We have a Dream’ - in tribute to the official Scotland song of the 1982 World Cup campaign.
The limited-edition five per cent US hopped IPA with juicy tropical fruit notes was available in 440ml cans and in kegs and stocked in a range of bars, tap rooms and bottle shops across Scotland.
Proceeds from every can went to the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal, the longest established charity funded by Scotland fans donating since 2003 to identified children’s charities in every country the Scottish national football team plays in.
George Wotherspoon, head of sales, said: "We have literally doubled our haul from last year, so we are very proud of everyone on the team at Loch Lomond Brewery for always striving so hard to produce the best quality beers we possibly can.
"From stouts and premium lagers to pale ales, British bitters and speciality flavoured beers and of course our new alcohol-free beers, we cover a lot of ground, so maintaining the highest of standards across all formats emphasises just how good our beer making is."
Winners at the event were chosen following a blind taste-test conducted by judges, beer sommeliers and brewers.
After being named as an overall winner, Loch Lomond Brewery will head to the SIBA’s UK finals in Liverpool next March.
