POLICE are still appealing for information a year on after a football boss was left with life-threatening injuries after being gunned down on a Cambuslang street.

The Evening Times reported in February last year how, at around 8.50pm on Wednesday 21, 48-year-old Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl was found with gunshot wounds on Cadoc Street.

He received treatment for injuries to his abdomen and face from which he recovered.

Officers carrying out enquiries at the time discovered he had been shot a short time earlier while he was in a black Peugeot 206 on Borgie Crescent.

He then managed to made his way to the Kirkhill Inn on Cadoc Street where emergency services were called.

Police then received a report of a car on fire on Turnlaw Road, near East Greenlees Road, which was identified as being linked to the shooting.

The car was a silver Ford Focus which had been reported stolen between January 1 and 2, 2018, from Camphill Avenue in Rutherglen.

Detective chief inspector Martin Fergus from the major investigation team (west) said: “We can definitively say this was a targeted attack. However, this does not take away from how serious this incident was.

“Those who use firearms are not only endangering the life of their target, but also other members of the public. It is vital we trace the person responsible to ensure this type of reckless violence is removed from our communities.

“I would like to reassure the public the investigation is ongoing and everything is being done to trace whoever is responsible.

“We would still appeal for anyone with any information to come forward, no matter how insignificant it may seem - it could be the key to solving this investigation.

“I’m certain somebody out there will have the information we need and I would urge them to think about the dangers that firearms bring to our streets and to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 3953 as of Wednesday, February 21, 2018.

Alternatively, contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in confidence.
