THE Ladies Opening of Helensburgh Bowling Club greens took place last Wednesday.

Lady Captain Sheena Lary welcomed members and guests, including Jean Irwin (SWBA), Lynnette Miller (WoSWBA President), Elizabeth Macleod (DWBA) and Iris Wiltshire (GWBA Vice President) and representatives from 12 kindred clubs.

Club champion Annette Christie was presented with a Champions Medal by President Amelia McBride, while Sadie Montgomery received an Honorary life membership certificate in recognition of her many years of support and effort afforded to the club since joining in 1979.

GWBA League winners Mary Robertson, Margaret Howat, Wilma Reid, E Fraser and skip Annette were presented with their medals.

The captain had the honour of delivering the first jack and bowls of the year, with the first impressively a toucher.

After wishing the lady members an enjoyable and successful season, she was presented with the ceremonial silver jack.

The ladies and guests played an eight end game with the highest up rink, at plus 10 shots, being: Cathy Boyle, Mary Robertson, Shirley Kennon and Veronica Butler-Hoskins (skip).

The best contested rink, plus three shots, were Rosemary Robertson, Nan Darroch, Freda Steele and Allison Dick skip.

After the ends of play, the ladies retired to the clubhouse to enjoy a meal.
