HELENSBURGH Rugby Club took a big step towards safety with a 18-0 victory over Allan Glen’s at Ardencaple on Saturday.
With the bottom two in the West District First Division going down, second bottom Burgh were in desperate need of a win and they duly delivered with one of their best performances of the season.
Tries from Paul Howell, Matthew Holland, Connor Slater and a penalty from Johnny Drake wrapped up the points for Burgh.
Coach Iain Ross was delighted with his side’s efforts.
He said: “It was a great win, the boys played really well.
“It was great to see such a good home support down to cheer the team on as well.
“The team defended really well, its been a while since we shut out an opposing team and it was a timely point in the season to do it.
“With two teams being relegated we probably need one more win from our last three games to be safe. We have a free weekend this weekend so we’ll have plenty of time to prepare.”
