Michael Stephen and Ed Somerville claimed victory in week four of the rain-affected Tennents Winter League competition at Helensburgh Golf Club.

A full house of players played in difficult conditions, with play being limited to just nine holes as half of the course was almost waterlogged following continuous rainfall during the week.

But luckily for the keen golfers, the showers held off on Sunday, allowing play to go ahead.

Stephen and substitute Somerville finished their round with 23 stableford points, one ahead of the chasing pack.

There were four pairs on 22 points, but coming in second place after a countback were Donny Nicolson and John Craig, who recieved a bottle of Grouse whisky.

In third place were Mel Newton and Colin Reid, who each received a sleeve of golf balls.

The other players achieving 22 points were Rob Prideaux and Richie Howard, Don Griffin and Tim Hughes.

Only four players achieved a gross 2 score on a difficult playing day and shortened course, so well done to Billy Trail, Richie Howard, Alan Scott and Alan Drysdale.

Four more weekly competition days remain.
