Loch Lomond Hockey Club’s first team put on a dominant display away to bottom of the table East Kilbride II last Saturday, winning 8-0.

The first 10 minutes of the game were contained in the midfield with Loch Lomond pushing high up the pitch to put pressure on the East Kilbride defenders.

Goal number one came from a well worked penalty corner with Molly Macken putting the final touch over the line for Loch Lomond.

A hard battle ensued around the East Kilbride D and only some last ditch defending denied Loch Lomond another goal.

With the Loch Lomond defenders and midfielders challenging EK at every location on the pitch, the home side rarely made it into the Loch Lomond backfield but Keeper Heather Smith did have a couple of timely saves to keep a clean sheet.

The second goal came just before half time, this time from an excellent run and brilliant finish by Rosie McColgan.

The visitors came out of the blocks in an explosive manner right at the start of the second half and were 3-0 up within the first five minutes courtesy of an excellently placed strike once again by McColgan.

And the fourth followed shortly afterwards when some great linking play tore the East Kilbride defence apart and an on-fire Macken drew the keeper and coolly slotted the ball into the net.

The back three of Sue Monty-Aikman, Hannah Leach and Zubi Kofi worked off each other flawlessly with Monty-Aikman constantly communicating to her two defenders about challenging high.

They, with the help of a very strong midfield, kept the ball in the EK end of the pitch for most of the second half.

A third from McColgan and another two from Macken put the result beyond doubt, but Loch Lomond had one more goal in the tank, when captain Vanesa Sabala stuck the ball low and hard from the edge of the D.

Although Rebecca Lightfoot didn't get on the score sheet, she deserves a mention for her tireless defending and attacking play and made a number of the goals with her perfect crosses into the D.

Player of the Match was awarded to Molly Macken, runner up was Rosie McColgan. Opposition Player of the Match was awarded to Vanessa Sabala.

Thanks once again to umpire Andy Richardson.
