THE seventh round of the Tennents Winter League competition at Helensburgh Golf Club produced the best scores of the competition to date.

There were two pairs recording 47 stableford points, with Ray Ford and Jamie France winning on the count back ahead of Don Griffin and Gordon McConnell.

Picking up a sleeve of golf balls each in third place were Peter Mundie and Billy Greene.

And Ramsay Howarth sunk a hole-in-one on the par-three 11th - the third ace of his golfing career so far.

There were 16 twos recorded, reflecting the effect of playing on six winter greens out of 18 holes – the first time this year that early morning frost has had an influence.

Tom Foster’s team maintain their first position with 1,018 points while the Eclectic scoring saw a change in the leaders with Michael White and Peter Davis advancing to 57 points, with one Sunday left to go.

On Saturday, 42 players chose to take part in the pro-shop 11-hole stableford played in winter sunshine.

David Reid and Graham Crowhurst shared the spoils in firstst place, each scoring 26 points.

Five players – Peter Mundie, Jamie Francis, Graeme Proud, Iain McKenna and Danny Lafferty – came joint second, all scoring 25 points.
