LOMOND School's S3 hockey players were in tournament action in Glasgow last week.

The Lomond team headed to Craigholme School on the south side of the city to face Glasgow Academy, Craigholme and Hutcheson's Grammar.

Their first match was against Glasgow Academy and Lomond had to defend exceptionally well to prevent the Glasgow team from scoring early on in the match.

Helena Geoghan captained the team from her sweeping position and Emily Harkness, Amelia Osborne and Molly Shepherd-Gargaro all defended well for the team.

Meanwhile it was Emma O’Neill who made some fantastic saves throughout the match in Lomond’s goals.

Although Lomond won a penalty corner, they lost the match 1-0 after Glasgow Academy struck a penalty corner shot into the corner of the goal.

Lomond’s second match was against Craigholme and after a few changes of formation, Lomond started to play a much better attacking game.

Sophie Morrison was the key player for the team and her natural athleticism allowed her to play in all areas of the pitch.

Kimberly Frahm, Amirah Hassan and Rachel Macleod all contributed to the team performance as well.

The final score was 0-0.

Lomond’s last match was against Hutchesons’ Grammar School.

Holly Cherry and Molly Muggoch made some runs and it was Holly who set up the best chance of the game.

Meanwhile, Lomond’s team had to defend for most of the match, with Sophie running out at the penalty corners and winning most of the races.

Emma was outstanding in goals and the whole team put their lives on the line to defend their goal.

Helena took great responsibility from her sweeping position and the final score was 0-0.

Credit must go to all the players who worked very hard throughout the afternoon.

Glasgow Academy went through as winners of the section, with Hutchesons’ second, Lomond third and Craigholme fourth.

The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 3, but Lomond's group games were rescheduled until the Monday due to the lingering effects of the heavy snow in the days before the competition.

The other sectional matches will be rearranged by the schools involved.
