ANN and John Tanner from Kilmacolm Golf Club emerged triumphant in Helensburgh Golf Club’s annual mixed seniors open competition on May 23 with a winning score of 39 points.

Thirty-six mixed pairs took part in the stableford greensome format, in which Linda Kerr and Derek Spall finished a close second with 38 points.

Carol Andrews and Colin Reid were third on 35 points, one clear of Lynn and Fraser McCathie.

John Ford topped the division one standings in the May round of the Anderson Cup, sponsored by CMC Electrical, at Helensburgh on Saturday.

Full net results as follows.

Division one: John Ford 70; Shey Donald and Ian Irving 71.

Division two: Stewart Coutts 69; Bernard Howe and Ian Porter 70.

Division three: Craig Ross Smith 68; Terry Smith and Michael Stephen 70.

Helensburgh’s gents’ seniors have three wins from their first four matches in the McIntyre Seniors League and now lie third in the standings.

Finally, Mark Birnie’s 41 stableford points saw him win the Crawford Lochhead Trophy on May 19. David Kick was second with 40 points, and Peter Haggarty, Calum Rosie, Andy Donald and Chris Stewart finished equal third.
