PLAYERS and officials from Rhu Amateurs held their annual Sportsman’s Dinner recently at the Rosslea Hall Hotel.

A large crowd were entertained by two speakers from either side of the Old Firm divide – former Celtic and Scotland midfielder Murdo MacLeod and ex Rangers and England striker Mark Hateley, both of whom have close links to the Helensburgh and Lomond area.

As well as dinner and the two guests’ speeches, the evening also featured Rhu’s end-of-season awards following the conclusion of their 2017-18 league campaign, which saw the team finish eighth in division 1B of the Caledonian League.

The players’ player of the year prize was presented to defender Eddie Bell, and the manager’s player of the year award went to striker and leading goalscorer Adam McCulloch.

A club spokesman said: “Rhu would like to thank local businesses Brican Fabrications, DCF Builders, Sims Automatic, Floorplan, Stewart and Shields, West Coast Cutters, Murdoch Gardening Services and Anderson Engineering for their continued support.

“Special mention should go to Don McGregor and his team at the Rosslea Hall for another terrific evening.”
