HELENSBURGH FC’s players and officials celebrated the end of their first campaign in the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL with their end-of-season awards night in the town.

The club moved across from the West of Scotland AFL at the end of the 2016-17 campaign and reached the quarter-finals of the President’s League Cup and the last four of the Spring Cup as well as finishing fourth in the GGPAFL’s third division.

After a long season, the awards night was a chance for the guys to reflect on their efforts during 2017-18 and to congratulate the award winners.

The top goalscorer award went to Brooks Tadlock, whose 21 goals were crucial to the Burgh’s progress over the course of the season.

Goalkeeper Callum O’Brien carried off the players’ player of the year prize – a richly deserved accolade in recognition of his consistently excellent displays in his first season with the club.

The coaches’ player of the year award went to Danny Johns – again a well-deserved award, making Danny the first player to pick up the trophy twice.

Manager Sam Gemmell said: “The past season has been very entertaining and we did very well, only to come up a tad short in the league and some of the cups.

“Due to restructuring, next season will see the club playing in the second division of the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL, which means that the competition will be fierce.

“The aim has always got to be promotion but this time the trap door of relegation awaits.

“With any new season players will come and go so our best wishes go to some of the lads who fancy a new challenge and it’s a welcome to the new guys coming into our ranks for the new season.”
