SIX Helensburgh and Lomond golfers will tee off in the Scottish men's amateur championship today.

Douglas Willoughby, Graeme Proud and Shey Donald are all flying the flag at the Blairgowrie tournament for Helensburgh Golf Club, alongside Jack Keating of Cardross.

Also in the field of 264 players from clubs throughout Scotland are two more Helensburgh members, Martyn Paton and Graham Barr, though they are playing under the banner of Gleddoch Golf and Country Club in Renfrewshire.

All will play 36 holes of strokeplay golf over the Lansdowne and Rosemount courses on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the top 64 players qualifying for the knockout matchplay stages, which get under way on Thursday.

And all are hoping to follow in the footsteps of the 2017 champion, Sam Locke, who recently won the silver medal as the leading amateur in the Open Championship at Carnoustie and immediately decided to turn professional.
