Wyllie Robertson won the division one prize, going out in 36 and returning in 34 in a round of five birdies and seven pars which beat Jack Armstrong by a single shot.

The final round of the seniors’ midweek medal was played in sombre circumstances last Wednesday. The tournament was celebrating its 10th anniversary and has been sponsored from the outset by John Andrews of Andrews Garage Services, who died unexpectedly little more than a week ago.

All seniors and members of the club extend their condolences to John’s family.

Out on the course, scoring was so good among the 52 competitors that the CSS was one below the SSS, at 66.

John MacMillan returned the best score of the day with a huge 44 stableford points, winning the September medal and becoming the first qualifier for the 2019 finals; Bob Goodger was second on 42 points and past captain John Fugler third on 41.

John, however, was the big winner of the day, taking home the 2018 Senior Midweek Trophy after beating off the other 14 finalists. Graham Crowhurst was second on 39.

Another finalist, Mike Massey, also had more than a consolation prize: his performance over the six senior medals won him the Senior Aggregate Trophy with a total of 83 points, ahead of Stewart Fraser and John Fugler on 81.

Scott Kennedy won the Gary Orr Five Club Challenge trophy with 41 points after a round which included seven part, beating Bob Goodger, who also scored 41, in a card play-off. Former club captain Ian Irving was third on 39.

Finally, Helensburgh’s McIntyre League seniors team completed their campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Kirkintilloch, a result which means they finish fifth out of 17 clubs in the overall end-of-season standings.
