LOCH Lomond’s first team defeated Kelburne III for the second week in a row on Saturday – with the 2-0 win this time securing their place in the next round of the West District Cup.

With 14 players in the squad, coach Anne McGregor was able to add some fresh legs during the match to keep up the high tempo of the game.

Loch Lomond were awarded a few penalty corners in the first half but despite some good spells of play and excellent running from the strikers, the first half ended goalless.

Loch Lomond knew if they wanted to avoid penalty flicks at the end of the 70 minutes they would have to make the pressure and possession count in front of goal.

The visitors settled quicker in this half and were more composed on the ball from back to front.

Determined closing down, digging in and fighting for the ball gained Loch Lomond the upper hand and a good spell of pressure, and an excellent ball into the D by Rebecca Lightfoot was fumbled by the Kelburne defence and Alexandra Smith was on hand to get the faintest of touches to put the ball over the line.

Another period of end-to-end play ensued with Kelburne looking for the equaliser and Loch Lomond equally determined not to throw away their lead. With just two minutes to go, Loch Lomond put the game to bed when Kim McCallion scored with a rebound strike from a penalty corner.

Player of the match was awarded to Tara Jackson - well deserved. Runners up were Vanesa Sabala and Kim McCallion.

Squad: Emma O’Neill, Caroline Lyall, Sue Aikman, Philippa Filmer, Eve Howard, Lauren McCreadie, Rebecca Lightfoot, Vanesa Sabala, Charlotte Chambers, Tara Jackson, Sophia Louise, Kirsty Cordner, Kim McCallion, Alexandra Smith.
