HELENSBURGH Netball Club’s first and second teams were in action on the same night in the Glasgow Netball League last week – and though both teams were narrowly beaten there were lots of positives for the Burgh players from the evening’s action.

HNC 2 went into their match with St Mirren hoping to continue their recent winning form, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be, with the Paisley team edging a very close match by a single point – 35-34 was the final score.

The two teams were neck-and-neck in every quarter and despite each team scoring 10 in the final quarter, HNC 2 were just pipped to the post.

Kirsty Eastman put in another stellar performance as GA and GS, giving her the ‘player of the match’ award for the third week in a row, while Kelly and Erin also put in a great performance in the circle.

Centre court was well looked after by Grace who maintained high energy, determined play and invaluable support for the whole game - no small feat in her position!

Lynda made her debut for HNC2 and what a debut it was! She showed off her defence skills in GK and WD.

As always, Kat put in a positive performance in defence as did Jen who seemed to be in all the right places at all the right times.

Meanwhile HNC 1 took on Kevlin 2 with the strong combination of Carly and Ali supporting each other in the D and using their honed shooting skills to get past Kelvin’s very strong defence.

Some great passes from Maddy and Ilona ensured the ball was moved strongly up court.

An injury by Yaz meant she had to retire early from the match but Rachel took over in the third quarter and she worked hard with Ilona to keep the score neck and neck.

Solid defence play by Katie and Justine intercepted many of the missed shots by Kelvin and kept everyone focussed on the scoreline.

The final score was 44-33 to Kelvin, with Carly Park (pictured top) winning the ‘player of the match’ award for her amazing shooting.
