GRAHAM CROWHURST chalked up what’s thought to be a Winter League first at Helensburgh on Sunday when he recorded no fewer than three twos in the course of his round.

Crowhurst’s treble – at the third, 11th and 16th holes – made him one of 12 players to score twos in the course of week three of the Tennent’s-sponsored tournament, and was a magnificent example of target golf at its best.

But it still wasn’t enough to secure him and his partner in the pairs competition top spot on the weekly podium: that honour went to Dominic Taylor and Terry Smith, who beat Calum and Scott Kennedy with a better inward half after both players scored 46 points.

Alan Bell was another player to catch the eye on the day with a two at the par-four 12th.

The latest round of the tournament was played in benign conditions, with weather improving throughout the day and the players starting later in the morning enjoying the best of the conditions.
