ARDENCAPLE AFC rounded off October with two very strong performances, climbing to second spot in the league and qualifying for the third round of the West of Scotland Cup.

Caple travelled to Strathclyde Park the weekend before last to face Edusport Academy, a side comprising elite French footballers who are striving to secure professional contracts in the UK.

Caple’s team-line listed only 11 available players, and even that contained a few who got out of their sick beds to show real commitment to the cause. Nevertheless, these Caple players simply rolled up their sleeves and produced a magnificent display based on discipline, tactical awareness and sheer hard work and earned a highly credible 0-0 draw.

Team: Russell, Livingston, Cameron, Rice, Hyslop, Angus, Johansson, Cavana, Harkin, Wallace, Jeffrey.

On Saturday Caple saw off highly-fancied Kings Park Rangers in round two of the West of Scotland Cup at Glasgow Green.

Caple started the game brightly but found it difficult to play their natural passing game on a very uneven and bumpy playing surface, while Kings Park had plenty of the ball but failed to create any clear-cut chances against a solid Caple defence.

Ross Jeffrey latched onto a long ball from Tony Rice before calmly slotting the ball past the advancing keeper to give Caple the lead, and the visitors made it two when Saul Angus stabbed the ball home after a fine, flowing move down the right.

Kings Park pulled a cheap goal back before the break, but a terrific display from Lee Dickson, deputising in goal, ensured Caple’s lead was never really in danger.

Manager Craig Holborn said: “Naturally, we are thrilled to have qualified for the next round of the cup, although we are equally pleased to have snatched that valuable away point in the league.

“This team has only been in existence for four short months and the club is absolutely delighted at its progress to date.

“We are always seeking to improve and we shall continue to explore changes to our coaching methods, to our fitness conditioning and to the tactical formations that we deploy to ensure that we win games and that our players realise their true potential.”

Team: Dickson, Hyslop, Cameron, Rice, Marshall, Angus, Johansson, Cavana, Harkin, Wallace, Jeffrey. Subs: McKell, Gallagher, Mallett, Livingston, McAreavey.

Caple play BSC Glasgow at Petershill Juniors’ park in Springburn this Saturday (November 3) – kick off is at 2pm.
