THREE members of Ardencaple FC’s 2006 squad have been chosen for the Scottish Youth FA’s West Regional squad.

Calum Sharp, Fraser Murray and Lewis Sharp were selected for the squad following two days of trials at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre on the south side of Glasgow.

They follow in the footsteps of their older clubmate, Connor Mullender, who has been selected for the West Region squad at 2003 age group level.

Meanwhile, Caple’s 2006 team saw off Broomhill 3-0 in the Winton Murdoch Cup.

Caple always had the edge in a competitive tie, creating several early chances with Godwin setting up Murray after a fine run down the left, but Murray delayed his shot and the chance was lost.

Broomhill’s keeper had to be quick off his line to smother two through balls, but Caple’s early pressure paid off after 15 minutes when a Godwin corner from the left caused confusion in the Broomhill defence and Murray reacted quickest to score from six yards.

Ardencaple weren’t under too much pressure at the back, as the midfield and defence kept winning crucial tackles and pushing forward, but despite having the bulk of the play Ardencaple couldn’t add to their lead before the break, with the visiting keeper having two fine saves.

Ten minutes into the second half Calum Sharp slotted home the second after Godwin picked him out in the box, but Godwin himself missed two chances to make it three, first slashing wide from 10 yards before seeing a shot saved by the keeper after he was sent clear down the left.

But with 10 minutes left Caple sealed the win when Dorizon was sent through on goal and picked his spot past the advancing keeper, while Poirier blocked a late goal-bound shot to preserve Caple’s clean sheet.
