MEMBERS of Helensburgh ITF Taekwondo were in action last week competing at the UKTA Scottish open in Motherwell, bringing home a total of five golds, one silver and one bronze.
Kirsten Barrett, who was competing as a 2nd dan for the first time, won gold in the patterns/kata division before going on to take a second gold in the sparring division with a dominating display against her opponent.
Next up was Kyle Crossan, who was competing for the first time – but who belied his lack of experience by totally clearing out his division with a great athletic display, winning gold in the sparring and special technique sections.
Kyle was also unlucky not to win a hat-trick of golds after being beaten in the semi-final of the patterns discipline and having to settle for bronze.
Completing the Helensburgh medal winners were Kyla McLorinan and Rebecca Cameron, who both made the final in the same division and ended up fighting each other for the gold and silver medals.
All the students train over six days a week in the group’s full time martial arts studio, Peak Performance, covering taekwondo, kickboxing, BJJ and fitness classes. If you’re interested in training, contact Steven McLaren on 07722 068238 or search for ‘Steven Mclaren Martial Arts’ on Facebook.
