IAN MacDONALD skipped Gordon Whitelaw, Robin Irvine and Mike Bews to victory in Helensburgh Curling Club’s first final of the new season last week.
They beat Adam Clark, Alan Barker (skip), Derek Spall and Alex Brown in the final of the McArthur Stanton Trophy at Braehead Ice Rink.
This was a ‘reverse position’ competition, meaning the thirds play as skips and the skips play as leads, and in a low-scoring, often tense, encounter it was the MacDonald rink who ran out winners by six shots to three, receiving the trophy from Jonathan Clinch of McArthur Stanton.
Helensburgh Curling Club is actively seeking new members as its latest season gathers pace. The club plays regularly at Braehead and has a full calendar of events throughout the season.
