KEVIN ROBB and Andy Donald overcame a bitter, driving wind to emerge clear winners in week seven of the Tennent’s Winter League at Helensburgh Golf Club on Sunday.

Their 44 stableford points saw them finish one clear of Donnie Nicolson and David McCarthy, who in turn were two ahead of Graham Thorley and Ian Harrington in third – the latter pair taking the final podium place thanks to a better inward half, ahead of Chris Stewart and Tommy Tynan.

The average score of 35.15 points reflected the difficult conditions at the start of the day, though as conditions improved, with the sun coming out and the wind speed dropping as the day progressed, nine twos were scored on the counting par three holes, each being rewarded with four Callaway golf balls.

The Winter League competitors are now looking forward to the final week’s play next Sunday. Team scores improved with this week’s points addition, but Alan Latham’s team continues to lead with 1,008 points.

John MacMillan and George Cairns did not improve their eclectic score of 57 points, but still lead that table.
