THE Donald brothers saw their prize bid eclipsed by Don Griffin and Tim Hughes in week eight of the Tennent’s Winter League at Helensburgh Golf Club on Sunday.

Don and Tim’s 47 stableford points saw them finish one clear of week seven winners Andy Donald and Kevin Robb, with Stephen Donald and Alan Bell one further point back in third place.

A cold gloomy day, though generally dry, encouraged the golfers to keep moving and saw an average score on the day of 37.52, slightly better than last week.

Six twos were scored, each one earning the player concerned four Pro V golf balls.

Despite the late surge for points by the week eight winners, Alan Latham’s team held their nerve to record the highest team score of 1,200 points over the whole competition to take the team prize.

John MacMillan and George Cairns improved their score by one point to take the Eclectic prize with a fantastic final total of 58 stableford points.

The Winter League dinner and prize-giving will take place in the club house on Friday, December 7.
