RHU Amateurs were in form at the weekend as they put together their biggest win of the season so far with an emphatic 9-2 victory away to Holytown Colts.

Rhu travelled to face bottom of the table Holytown on the back of a four game winless run but had a strong second-half performance to thank as they got back to winning ways in some style with Sharkey twins Adam and Kyle bagging a hat-trick each.

Rhu edged after after just five minutes with Kyle grabbing his first of the day after Adam teed him up.

The hosts did respond when their big forward got on the end of a long ball to draw level, but Rhu had their noses in front again minutes later with the same combination of Adam and Kyle linking up well for the latter to slot home his second of the afternoon.

Rhu were in control now as the hosts tried to keep them at bay but the visitors got their third after Thomas Connolly found James Burns who coolly finished.

The visitors started the second half as they finished the first –and they didn’t have long to wait with Ali Maule finding space in the box to extend their lead.

Rhu kept up the pressure despite the one-sided scoreline and soon made it five when Kyle rolled it into an empty net.

Sitting comfortably, Rhu rang the changes with Shaun Laird and Patrick Scullion introduced to the action with 30 minutes remaining but they didn’t let up as they continued to push forward.

Number six duly followed when Adam grabbed his first of the day after finishing off a determined solo run with a fine finish.

Adam got his second with 15 minutes left on the clock after it fell kindly to him in the box before securing his hat-trick with a simple finish after substitute Laird played him through.

Holytown were desperate for the final whistle, but to their credit they were able to secure a late consolation with their second of the day after some determined play.

Rhu finished off the rout after Nathan Teague’s effort from distance fooled the keeper to sneak in.

Rhu return home this Saturday as they welcome Dunblane Soccer Academy to Ardenconnel Park. Kick-off 2pm.
